The Catcher in the Rye

For this book cover redesign, I wanted to pay homage to the mid-century era the book was originally published in by utilizing geometric forms and the negative space.

The simplified shapes play off of the main literary symbolism of the main character’s transition from childhood to adulthood. The red, yellow, and black color palette is a carry-over from the original book cover, which was notably the only cover J.D. Salinger allowed to be illustrated.
